Lubbock Voters to Decide Special City Council Runoff

Lubbock voters are now heading to the polls to decide who will be the next person to serve on the City Council.

Back in June, voters advanced home builder Tim Green and former City Councilman Gary Boren to a runoff election to replace Councilman Brayden Rose, who resigned midway through his term. Boren initially filed to run in a special election earlier in the year but was erroneously disqualified by city staff. Now, he’s a candidate in the runoff.

Green appears to be running as the more establishment candidate, having the backing of several former mayors and city leaders. Meanwhile, Boren is running on an aggressively conservative platform, bolstered by an endorsement from incumbent Lubbock Mayor Mark McBrayer.

Early voting runs through July 28th, with Election Day scheduled for August 1st.
