Potter County voters might have a new candidate throwing his name in the hat to serve as their next sheriff.
According to finance reports from Potter County, Norman Fisher recently filed a campaign treasurer appointment for a potential bid for sheriff. The appointment is not an official declaration of candidacy, but allows Fisher to begin raising and spending funds in connection with a future bid for the office.
As of 2023, Fisher was serving as a lieutenant with the Amarillo Police Department, according to information from the Amarillo Police Officers Association.
The incumbent sheriff, Brian Thomas, was most recently re-elected in 2024 unopposed. Thomas is widely expected to retire at the end of his current term. His term will expire at the end of 2028.
At this point, no other candidates have filed a campaign treasurer appointment for sheriff.
