Texas officially has a new comptroller on the job.
Don Huffines was sworn in this weekend to serve as the next comptroller of public accounts for Texas. Huffines, a businessman and former state senator from Dallas, won the Republican primary for the office earlier this year against the then-acting incumbent, Kelly Hancock. Hancock recently resigned, leading Gov. Greg Abbott to appoint Huffines to fulfill the remainder of the term.
During his campaign, Huffines campaigned on a platform of auditing Texas government, ending waste, and saving taxpayer money.
Huffines is currently headed toward the general election, where he will face Austin Democrat Sarah Eckhardt.
