On Tuesday night, neither Republican Michelle Eggleston or Democrat Jerri Glover faced opponents in their respective primary elections, each cruising to a general election showdown in November for the office of Potter County Judge.
Still, members of both parties cast their votes — and their undervotes — in each race and perhaps gave us all a clearer picture of where each candidate stands entering the general election season.
In the Republican primary, 6,124 voters cast their ballots for Eggleston as the unopposed candidate for county judge, while 1,377 skipped the race. This accounts for about 81.64 percent of all ballots being cast in Tuesday’s primary election being in support of Eggleston’s candidacy.
Meanwhile, in the Democratic primary, 3,010 voters cast their ballots for Glover as the unopposed candidate for county judge, while 646 skipped the race. This accounts for about 82.33 percent of all ballots being cast in Tuesday’s Democratic primary election being in support of Glover as the party’s nominee.
While Glover does have a slight edge among party supports according to the results, the road is still likely to be difficult for any Democrat running countywide in Potter County. The last countywide race that featured a Republican and Democrat facing off with one another was in 2020, when Democrat Ryan Brown challenged Republican County Attorney Scott Brumley in the general election. In that race, Brumley received 22,654 votes — or 71.56 percent — to Brown’s 9,005 votes — or 28.44 percent.
