Educator and medical professional Holly Jeffreys is officially the Republican nominee to replace State Rep. John Smithee (R-Amarillo) in House District 86.
On Tuesday night, Jeffreys defeated her opponent, Canyon business owner Jamie Haynes, with 66 percent of the vote. Unofficial totals also had Jeffreys leading Haynes in both candidates’ home county of Randall, with 67 percent of the vote.
A first-time legislative candidate, Jeffreys is an educator at West Texas A&M University and is also a former member of the Bushland school board.
Jeffreys’ victory sets up a November general election showdown with Democrat Cullin Knutson in the race to replace Smithee.
