Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt has reportedly selected his pick to replace U.S. Sen. Markwayne Mullin in the event of Mullin’s confirmation to President Trump’s cabinet.

According to a report from News9 in Oklahoma City, Stitt has settled on energy executive Alan Armstrong to be the next senator from the Sooner State. Armstrong, who is currently the chairman of Williams Companies, is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma who has been involved in the energy industry for at least the past 40 years.

Under state law, whoever Stitt chooses to replace Mullin would only be able to serve until the special election is held later this year. At that point, Oklahoma voters would select their new senator for the remainder of the term, and the appointed incumbent would be ineligible to run.

Mullin was first elected to the seat in 2022 after serving a decade in the U.S. House of Representatives. He was nominated by President Donald Trump to serve as the next Secretary of Homeland Security and his Senate confirmation vote is expected on Monday.
