Before Amarillo voters began heading to the polls for the primary election, several local donors were already shelling out campaign cash. Here’s a look at which U.S. Senate candidates are raising the most money from local donors.

Ken Paxton — $24,361.53 raised from Amarillo donors

Attorney General Ken Paxton has had the largest haul from local donors this campaign cycle, bringing in $25,361.53 from eight donors. Paxton’s top donors were Alex and Cheryl Fairly, who each contributed $10,500 to Paxton. The campaign then refunded $3,500 to each donor.

Paxton’s average donation from local donors was $2,214.68.

John Cornyn — $19,200 raised from Amarillo donors

Incumbent U.S. Sen. John Cornyn brought in the second largest amount from Amarillo donors, with a total of $19,200 from 15 donors between his two committees — Texans for Senator John Cornyn and Cornyn Victory Committee. Cornyn’s largest donor from Amarillo was Ralph Ellis, who donated $5,000.

Texans for Senator John Cornyn brought in $6,250 from Amarillo donors, while Cornyn Victory Committee brought in $12,950.

Counting the haul from both committees, Cornyn’s average donation from local donors was $1,280.

James Talarico — $7,700 raised from Amarillo donors

State Rep. James Talarico brought in the third-largest amount from Amarillo donors, with $7,700 raised. This is notable, as Talarico is the only Democrat to appear on this list.

Talarico’s largest local donor was Douglas Boyd, who donated $3,500.

The average campaign contribution from Amarillo donors to Talarico was $405.26.

What about the other candidates?

The two other major candidates in the race — Republican Rep. Wesley Hunt and Democrat Rep. Jasmine Crockett — have not received any donations from local contributors as of the most recent campaign finance reports.
