On Election Day, voters in Randall County will be selecting their new county clerk following the retirement of incumbent Susan Allen. We feel one candidate stands out as the best option in this race.
Gigi Yeats is the current chief deputy at the Randall County Clerk’s office. Yeats, 62, is notably different than many chief deputies who run for office. Instead of running strictly on a continuity platform, Yeats has pinpointed a few areas where she feels like she could improve the office — most notably the prospect of bringing a branch of the office back to the Randall County Annex. Her stance on this issue has made her stand out in this race, as she’s managed to stake out a position that has voters excited about her candidacy in a race that otherwise has flown under the radar.
Yeats’ opponent, Marie McNutt, ran for this office in 2018 and lost to Allen in that primary election. She did not respond to our Voter Guide questionnaire. Her campaign has focused primarily on “turning the lights back on” — a nod to criticism over the way the Randall County Clerk’s office is currently lit. She’s an employee of the Randall County District Clerk’s office.
Both candidates seem like nice people, and both should be commended for stepping up to serve the citizens of Randall County. At this point, however, we believe Yeats is the right person to lead this office for the next four years.
We recommend Gigi Yeats for Randall County Clerk.
Early voting runs from February 17 through February 27. Election Day is Tuesday, March 3.
