County Clerk Candidate McNutt: My Rebuttal to Pioneer Endorsement

The following article was submitted for publication by Randall County Clerk candidate Marie McNutt. McNutt’s submission is a response to our Editorial Board’s recommendation in the Republican primary for Randall County Clerk. That article can be read here.

I appreciate the Amarillo Pioneer Editorial Board taking the time to consider the Randall County Clerk’s race. However, I feel it is important to respond to several points raised in the endorsement of my opponent.

First, I was not contacted for comment prior to publication. I am easily accessible and would have welcomed the opportunity to answer questions, clarify my platform, and participate fully in the voter guide process. Transparency and open communication matter — in government and in journalism.

Second, reducing my campaign to a phrase about “turning the lights back on” misrepresents both the intent and substance of my platform. That phrase reflects a broader commitment to restoring transparency, accessibility, and public confidence in the County Clerk’s office. It is about ensuring the office operates in a way that is open, responsive, and accountable to the citizens it serves.

I currently serve in the Randall County District Clerk’s office, where I work daily within the court system and alongside county officials. My experience gives me a practical understanding of records management, statutory compliance, public service, and the importance of accuracy and efficiency in government operations.

While my opponent has focused on restoring a branch office to the Annex, my campaign is centered on fiscal responsibility, operational efficiency, employee morale, customer service, and long-term modernization. Any expansion of services must be carefully evaluated to ensure it is financially responsible and sustainable for taxpayers.

This election should not be about personalities or headlines — it should be about leadership, stewardship of public funds, and service to the citizens of Randall County.

I respect anyone willing to serve, but I believe Randall County deserves a County Clerk who will lead with transparency, accountability, and a clear plan for strengthening the office as a whole.

I welcome the opportunity to speak directly with voters about my vision and my qualifications.
