2025 PRAD Elections Set

Local taxing units will be casting their ballots soon to decide who will be serving on the Potter-Randall Appraisal District Board of Directors for the next two years.

This year, both Potter and Randall counties have two seats up for grabs on their boards. These seats are elected by the taxing units of the counties, based on a vote distribution that is equivalent to their overall taxing levy. Thus, school districts typically have the largest voting strength, followed by counties, then cities, then special taxing entities.

In Potter County, Mitzi Wade and Chip Hunt are the two nominees for the vacancies open this year. Both Wade and Hunt are currently serving on the board and will be re-elected without any opposition.

In Randall County, there are four candidates nominated for the two vacancies. Incumbents Jinger White — who currently serves as board chair — and Jack Klaus have been nominated for full terms on the board. Meanwhile, the City of Amarillo nominated former City Councilman Tom Scherlen for one of the spots and Haley Holt has also been nominated.

Taxing units will cast their votes through December with some specific deadlines for particular taxing units. The two candidates with the most votes in 2025 will take office in early 2026.

The Potter-Randall Appraisal District Board of Directors has no direct control over any appraisals or valuation increases or decreases. The board sets internal policies related to spending and oversight of district personnel, approves the fiscal year budget, and may hire or fire the chief appraiser. The Board of Directors also appoints members to their respective counties’ appraisal review boards.
