A local family unveiled a new statue that was donated to the City of Amarillo on Tuesday.
The new statue, which features the likeness of an unknown cowboy, was created by legendary local artist Jack King Hill. Hill’s son, King, unveiled the statue on Tuesday after the Amarillo City Council voted two weeks ago to accept the donation of the artwork from King Hill and his wife, Diane.
In a social media post, the City of Amarillo said the piece — which has been named “The Amarillo Cowboy” — “honors the rugged spirit and Western legacy that helped shape our city from the very beginning.”
The statue will be on permanent display on the 3rd floor of City Hall.
