APD: One Arrested Following Bell Standoff

A man was taken into custody after a standoff with Amarillo Police officers on South Bell Street yesterday.

On July 6, at 3:54pm, officers were called to an apartment complex in the 1500 block of South Bell Street on a disorderly with a weapon report. Witnesses told officers that a male suspect had been yelling, cussing, and pointing a gun at people before going into an unoccupied apartment. The suspect, identified as Jeremy Masquiz, 31, locked the door of the apartment and refused to exit.

Due to the danger posed to surrounding apartments, APD’s Critical Incident Response Team was called to the scene. At 9:40pm, the suspect complied with SWAT officers and exited the apartment.

The suspect was taken into custody and was booked into the Potter County Detention Center for Terroristic Threat and a parole violation warrant.
