Amarillo City Council Looking at Tax Increase

Property taxes in Amarillo could soon be rising again.

According to information released by the City of Amarillo, the Amarillo City Council is currently proposing an increased tax rate for the next fiscal year of $0.38851 per $100 property valuation. This rate will be higher than the current rate of $0.368380 per $100 valuation, and will include a tax of about four cents for debt service.

Among the highlights of items coming from the tax increase, the City of Amarillo says residents could expect several new positions at the Amarillo Fire Department and at Animal Management & Welfare, along with additional funding for street repairs.

Public hearings on the tax rate are planned for September 3rd and September 10th. Final approval is expected for the September 24th meeting of the City Council.
