Amarillo College Board Unanimously Recommends Hearings on Tax Increase

Your college taxes may be going up this year in Amarillo.

According to a public notice from Amarillo College, board members at the school are considering approving an increase in collected tax revenue for the upcoming fiscal year. Under the proposal, tax revenue collections are expected to increase about 0.52 percent during the upcoming fiscal year.

Regents Paul Proffer, Anette Carlisle, Jay Barrett, Johnny Mize, Sally Jennings and David Woodburn voted to hold public hearings on the proposed tax increase. Regents Michele Fortunato, Patrick R. Miller, and Daniel E. Henke were not present for the vote.

The first public hearing will be held on Tuesday, August 28th at 5:45pm in the Palo Duro Room of the College Union Building (2201 S. Washington). The second hearing will be held on Tuesday, September 11th, at noon in the Palo Duro Room.

If approved, the proposed will stand at $0.20750 per $100 property evaluation. The current tax rate for the college district is $0.20642 per $100 evaluation.
