Amarillo Police are investigating a death in the 900 North block of Johnson Street.

According to APD, officers were dispatched Monday to 900 North Johnson on the report of a subject lying on the ground outside of the residence. Officers found Tomas Mateo, 32, deceased outside the home. Initially, officers thought the subject had been shot, but the cause of death was later reported as being unknown. Justice of the Peace Robert Taylor ordered an autopsy and the APD homicide and CSI units were called to the scene.

On Wednesday, APD announced the death had been ruled a homicide.
