The following is a compilation of the unedited responses from Kerry Brian Haney, candidate for Potter County Court-at-Law #1, to the 2018 Amarillo Pioneer Voter Guide Questionnaire. Haney is running in the March 6th Republican primary against Amarillo attorneys Len Walker and Walt Weaver.

Name:

Kerry Brian Haney

Office Sought:

Potter County Court-at-Law #1

Why did you decide to run for office?

Initially, I decided to run because I felt that a change was needed. But my greater concern was that the office would be managed for the good of all the people of Potter County and not for just a select few.

Please list any of your political, civic or non-profit experience.

I have worked in several political campaigns as a volunteer, I am a former member of the Amarillo Downtown Lions Club, a former member of the Amarillo Area Bar Association, and volunteered in a soup kitchen.

What is your educational background?

I graduated from private high school in Amarillo in 1981, the received my BA in political science and English from the University of Central Arkansas and my JD from the University of Arkansas-Little Rock.

What experience do you have that qualifies you for this position?

I have practiced in the areas of law that the job entails: criminal defense, family law and juvenile, along with probate matters. I have also been a high school sports official where my job was to conduct the contest under the rules set forth and make decision about the contest based on those rules in a fair and consistent manner.

How will you best represent the community that elected you?

I will give the people of Potter County a dollar's worth of value for every dollar spent. I also will endeavor to respect, understand, and include the many cultures that comprise our community.

Are you supported by Amarillo Matters?

No

How are you better suited than your opponent(s) to serve in the position that you are running for?

I feel like I relate well to the blue-collar segment of the city and the county. I come from a hard-working family back ground, where my father taught me that my greatest achievement is to be where I was supposed to be, when I was supposed to be there, doing what I was supposed to be doing.

Why should voters choose you on March 6th?

My greatest ability is dependability. I will be on the job every day that I am supposed to be. I am fiscally, socially, morally, personally and politically responsible. I am also a life-long Republican and I support the fundamental values upon which our country was founded.
