Rosas Files Campaign Treasurer Appointment

Steven Rosas has taken a major step toward becoming a candidate for the 2019 municipal elections.

On Wednesday, Rosas filed a campaign treasurer appointment with the City of Amarillo to begin raising money for a possible bid for a seat on the Amarillo City Council. Rosas’ form declared his candidacy for City Council Place 4, against incumbent Howard Smith, although this not require Rosas stay in that spot or guarantee him a place on the ballot. Rosas must file an official application for a spot on the ballot during the filing period in January and February to be included in the race.

Businessman Tom Warren has also filed a treasurer appointment, declaring his candidacy for mayor, although he has not officially announced a candidacy, or confirmed that he will be running. All five incumbent members to the City Council also have active treasurer appointments.

Filing will begin in January. Candidates can file treasurer appointments at any time if they intend to raise or spend $500 in connection with a campaign. Funds raised can be used at any point with a six year period.

The election will be held in May 2019.
