U.S. Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-Amarillo) has drawn his first announced challenger.

On Tuesday, former City Councilman Mark Nair announced that he will seek the Democratic nomination for Congress in 2026. Nair, a tech business consultant, served on the Amarillo City Council from 2015 to 2017. Nair has also recently been a professor teaching economics at Amarillo College.

Nair lists his educational background as having attended Texas A&M University and the University of Texas School of Law. Nair holds a master’s and a bachelor’s from Texas A&M University.

The announcement by Nair means voters in Congressional District 13 will have their first contested race since 2022. In that cycle, Jackson was re-elected over attorney Kathleen Brown with 75% of the vote.
