Gov. Greg Abbott will have to get through a crowded field of challengers to win renomination for his job in 2026.
According to the Republican Party of Texas, Abbott will face nine challengers in the Republican primary for governor. Those challengers are Arturo Espinosa, Pete Chambers, Stephen Samuelson, Evelyn Brooks, Kenneth Hyde, Ronnie Tullos, Nathaniel Welch, Bob Achgill, and Charles Crouch.
Abbott is the odds-on favorite to win renomination, as most of his opponents are not well known. Only one of Abbott’s primary challengers — State Board of Education member Evelyn Brooks — holds a major elected office.
The Republican primary election for this office will be held in March 2026.
