Randall County Republican Chairman Kelly Giles entered into a deferred adjudication agreement in his election fraud case on Wednesday.
In the 47th District Court in Randall County, Giles pled guilty on Wednesday morning to one misdemeanor count of attempted election fraud. The plea knocked the charge down from the original indicted charge of state jail felony election fraud.
Visiting Judge Bill Sowder sentenced Giles to six months deferred adjudication, a $2,000 fine, and 25 hours of community services. At the completion of his deferred adjudication, the judge has the ability to dismiss Giles’ case.
The charges stem from issues related to Giles’ ballot application and nominating petition from the March 2024 Republican primary election. In that race, Giles defeated two opponents to win a full term as county chairman.
Giles is not seeking re-election in 2026.
