U.S. Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-Amarillo) will likely have a primary challenge this year from a supporter of the cannabis industry.

Chasity Wedgeworth, an Amarillo business owner, has filed a statement of candidacy with the Federal Elections Commission in preparation to a challenge against Jackson. Wedgeworth has also launched a social media platform for her campaign, where she says she is “running for congress to bring honesty, accountability, and common sense back to District 13.”

According to her campaign’s social media page, Wedgeworth is an ardent supporter of the cannabis industry and has called upon those involved in the industry to support her campaign. According to her platform listed on her website, Wedgeworth also says she is concerned about protecting rural healthcare access, defending water rights, and restoring accountability in Washington.

As of this writing, Wedgeworth’s application for a place on the ballot has not yet been received by the Republican Party of Texas.

The primary election for this office will be held in March 2026.
