One of the Texas Panhandle’s state representatives may be getting a primary challenger next year.
Last month, John Browning filed a campaign treasurer appointment for a potential bid for Texas House District 88. Browning’s website has now gone live. According to the website, Browning is a farmer, rancher, and independent oil and gas producer based in Plainview.
Browning lists his top priorities as protecting schools, cutting waste, defending faith and freedom, and standing up for rural Texans.
District 88, which includes most of the rural Panhandle, is currently represented by Canadian Republican Ken King. King, a controversial moderate, most recently won re-election in 2024 with 77 percent of the vote in the Republican primary.
The primary election is scheduled for March 2026.
