The Amarillo Pioneer Editorial Board recommends voting for Texas State Proposition 13 during the November 4th general election.
Proposition 13, which was supported by a bipartisan coalition of lawmakers, would increase the homestead exemption to $140,000. This would give Texas taxpayers a larger tax breaks on their current property tax bills for school districts. Presently, the homestead exemption is set at $100,000.
Upon passage of Proposition 13, the State of Texas would fund the difference in lost revenue for Texas school districts out of the state’s historic budget surplus.
This item is a no-brainer for Texas taxpayers. Tax bills are too high, and any kind of tax relief should earn an immediate seal of approval from voters. Proposition 13 not only reduces tax bills, but ensures that school districts can continue budgeting for success thanks to support from the Texas Legislature.
It’s not often you can vote directly for lower taxes. On November 4th, however, you can. Vote for Proposition 13 and secure a lower tax bill for you and for your neighbors across Texas.
Please note: An editorial board recommendation does not necessarily represent the views or opinions of the Amarillo Pioneer’s advertisers or staff. A recommendation of one candidate does not represent a criticism of other candidates running unless otherwise stated. Recommendations may be offered in additional races.
