The Republican Party of Texas has endorsed Cole Stanley for Mayor of Amarillo and Tom Scherlen for Amarillo City Council Place 3.

“Just got another great endorsement from the REPUBLICAN PARTY of TEXAS,” said Scherlen. “I can not thank you enough!”

The two were endorsed by the Potter County Republican Party last month. In a statement, Potter County GOP Chair Dan Rogers said “We encourage all Republicans in Amarillo to turn out and vote for Cole Stanley and Tom Scherlen – the only candidates formally endorsed by the Potter County Republican Party.”

Stanley, a construction company owner and current City Councilman, is running for mayor to replace retiring incumbent Ginger Nelson. He is being opposed for by City Councilwoman Freda Powell, former Elkhart City Councilman Don Collins, life coach Jeff McGunegle, truck driver Sam Burnett, and influencer/truck driver Tonya Winston.

Meanwhile, Scherlen, a retired business executive and former 100 Club of the Texas Panhandle board member, is running to replace Eddy Sauer, who is not seeking re-election. He is being opposed by Katt Massey, the former assistant to Nelson, and John Adair, a retiree.

Voters will decide these elections on Saturday, May 6.
