Finance Report Summary: Canyon ISD Candidates

Our team has been combing through the finance reports filed by local candidates last week. We’ve already covered candidates for Amarillo ISD and Amarillo College. Next, we are looking at Canyon ISD:

Place 2

In the race for Place 2, challenger Jodi Davis has outraised incumbent Katharyn Wiegand, reporting $4,800 in contributions to Wiegand’s $3,200. Davis’ largest contributor was Jeffrey Stocker, who gave $1,000, while Wiegand’s largest contributor was Randy Darnell, who gave $2,500. (Davis also reported an in-kind contribution worth $1,600 from Kari Trice, who provided yard signs. She also loaned her campaign $5,150.)

While Davis was ahead in contributions, Wiegand was ahead in expenses, reporting a total of $4170.11 to Davis’ $2,481.41. Wiegand’s largest expense was for $2,213.73, paid to Designer Graphics for yard signs. Davis’ largest expense was for $1,569.33, paid to CAZ Consulting for campaign services and yard signs.

Place 7

In the open race for Place 7, Tiffany Rogers raised the most amount of money, with $4,600 in contributions. Coming in second was Laurie Gilliland, who raised $2,540. Derrick Thomas, whose only campaign contribution was from himself, raised $637.59. Rogers’ largest contributor was Triangle Realty, who gave $1,500 to her campaign. Gilliland’s largest contributor was Brian & Sheri Hildinger, who gave $250. (Also listed on Gilliland’s report was Gary & Linda Hinders. Hindes is the retiring incumbent Place 7 board member.)

Gilliland did spend slightly more than Rogers, reporting a total of $2587.95 in expenses, with the largest reported expenses going to the WTAMU Print Shop. Rogers reported $2,207.60 in expenses, with the largest amount reported going to CAZ Consulting, who received $1,702.67 for consulting and yard signs. Thomas’ report did not note what he spent his money on.

Place 3 Special Election

In the four-way race for the open seat in the Place 3 special election, Jared Wirt reported the highest contributions total, having raised $5,400. Casey Posey raised the second largest amount, reporting $2,575 in contributions. Both also loaned money to their campaigns, with Posey loaning $4,000 and Wirt loaning $50. Posey’s largest contributor, Amy Hayhurst, gave $500, while Wirt’s largest contributor, Reagan & Michelynda Crossnoe, gave $2,000. Neither Claudia Burkett nor Josh Grisham reported any contributions.

While Wirt reported the highest contributions total, he had the lowest total expenses, reporting a total of $257.94. His largest expense was $160.75 to VistaPrint for door hangers. While Claudia Burkett did not report any contributions, she did report the highest expenditures total, having spent $5,719.38. Most of her expenses were to Nobox, who received $3,719.38 to pay for logo design and yard signs. Posey had the second highest expenditures total, reporting $2920.02 in expenses. Most of Posey’s expenses went to CAZ Consulting, which received a total of $2727.61 for providing consulting and yard signs. Josh Grisham reported a total of $1,100 in expenses. While he listed two expenditures on his report, one to Imprint.com for yard signs and one to Amarillo Sign for banners, he did not report how much each expense was for.
