Former President Donald Trump has filed for the 2024 Texas presidential primary ballot.
On Saturday, Trump filed his application for the ballot in Texas, becoming the first presidential contender to secure a spot on the state’s 2024 primary ballot. At the time of this writing, no other presidential contender had filed an application for the ballot.
Trump is seeking a second non-consecutive term as president and is widely considered the frontrunner for the Republican nomination. In the latest Texas poll produced by YouGov last month, Trump led the presidential field in with 58 percent of support. Following Trump at a distant second place was Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who received 14 percent.
Candidate ballot filing will continue through Monday, December 11. The Republican primary election is scheduled for Tuesday, March 5, 2024.
