Amarillo Police: Heavy Wind Causes Issues

Heavy wind in the Amarillo area caused some major issues on Wednesday, authorities said.

According to the Amarillo Police Department, crews were dispatched across town on Wednesday, responding to incidents caused by heavy wind. Heavy debris was reported causing blocked roadways, and structural damage was caused to at least one building in Amarillo. Xcel Energy also reported to incidents of downed power lines, and areas of Amarillo reported having no power. APD encouraged drivers to avoid driving during this time.

The National Weather Service reported expected wind gusts of up to 80 miles per hour during this time.
