15th Avenue Fire Causes $140k in Damage

A fire on Wednesday afternoon caused $140,000 in damage.

According to the Amarillo Fire Department, crews were dispatched at 5:20pm on Wednesday to a structure fire at 4213 Southwest 15th Avenue. Crews arrived on scene at 5:23pm and encountered heavy fire coming from the rear of a single story residence. Crews extinguished some exterior fire and made entry, where they found a significant amount of fire in the attic.

The fire was called under control at 6:44pm. No occupants were home at the time, but three dogs perished in the fire.

Amarillo Fire Marshal officials have ruled the fire accidental, stemming from a knob and tube wiring system malfunction. Damage is estimated at $140,000.
