Amarillo Police Cutting Lobby Hours at Downtown Office

The lobby will soon have new hours at the Amarillo Police Department office in downtown Amarillo.

According to a press release, the APD lobby at 200 Southeast 3rd Avenue will have new hours beginning Thursday, May 24th. Beginning on Thursday, the lobby will now be opened to the public from 7am until 10pm, Monday through Friday, and 8am to 5pm, Saturday through Sunday.

Prior to this change, the lobby has been open 24 hours a day. Authorities say that the officers working during the evenings saw very few and sometimes no people coming through the front doors. APD made the decision to lock the doors in the evenings, to allow civilian employees to better utilize their time. During the hours the lobby is closed, citizens needing police assistance will be able to enter the area between the north facing doors of the department and access a red telephone that dials directly to the Amarillo Emergency Communications Center.

This change will not affect emergency communications at the department. Police reports still can be made at police.amarillo.gov.
