City of Amarillo Offering Septic System Tips

"In light of the recent tragedy resulting in the death of a three year old in neighboring New Mexico, the Bi-City-County Health District’s Environmental Health department would like to remind all citizens who utilize on-site-sewage facilities (septic systems) to assess their systems and ensure that the tank access riser lids are secured to prevent unauthorized entry. This is especially important after a system has been serviced by a licensed pumping contractor. Here are a few things to look for:

  • Know where your system is located on your property

  • Check for any cracks or breaks on the exposed lids twice per year

  • Make sure the lids are fully secured with fasteners that require a tool to remove

Should you have questions or concerns regarding your septic system, please call Environmental Health at (806) 378-9472. To learn more about on-site-sewage facilities visit the Environmental department’s informational page at http://bit.ly/2DRBJFM. Additional information may also be found at https://ossf.tamu.edu/."
