Xcel Energy Sends Letter to Residents Notifying of Potential Rate Increase

Xcel Energy has filed a request with the Texas Public Utility Commission to raise base rates by 23 percent in 2018, according to letters sent to customers this week.

Southwestern Public Service Company sent a letter to customers this week informing residents that the company is looking raise the base rate of utility bills in Amarillo by 23 percent, totaling a 17 percent overall increase in customers' bills.

The letter was sent to customers as a proposed form of notice, as the increase has not been officially approved.

SPS is requesting that the commission make the change with an effective date of September 25, 2017.
