APD Makes Arrest in Bomb Threat

One man has been arrested following a bomb threat yesterday.

The Amarillo Police Department reports that Richard Duron, 39, has been arrested for making a false report regarding a bomb threat yesterday. On Monday morning, officers were dispatched to west Amarillo on the report of explosives inside of a vehicle. A man called APD and reported that the vehicle he had been driving contained explosives. He described a red Chevrolet that he had left parked on a lot at a restaurant at 8300 Interstate 40 West.

Officers found the man standing between two restaurants, not far from the red Chevrolet. He told officers that he believed that items inside of the car contained explosives including the seat belt hardware and batteries in the spare tire compartment. The people in nearby restaurants were advised of the situation and evacuated. Officers with the bomb squad searched the vehicle with the bomb robot and then by hand. Officers also checked items that the man had thrown inside of a nearby dumpster. No explosives or suspicious items were found.

Duron was arrested and was booked into the Potter County Detention Center.
