Fake Death Threats Targeting Canyon Residents

Fake death threats are targeting Canyon residents, according to a new report from the Canyon Police Department.

Authorities in Canyon say that a death threat is being emailed to residents of Canyon, demanding ransom paid in bitcoins. According to the emails, if the ransom is not paid, the recipient of the email will be killed.

Canyon Police say that the email should not concern recipients as the claims made are untrue.

"This is not a new scam," Canyon Police Chief Dale Davis wrote online. "This type of scam has been around for years. CPD stated that the letter probably originates out of the country."

Davis says that due to broken sentences and grammar, the email is likely from out of the country. Any recipients of the email should discard it and should block the sender's address.

Residents are advised not to click any links in the email or to respond to the sender.
