IRS Scam Targeting Amarillo Residents

A new phone scam is targeting residents in Amarillo.

According to the Amarillo Police Department, authorities have received several calls this week about a new scam targeting Amarillo residents. A caller, claiming to be from the IRS, is calling Amarillo residents and stating that the victim owes money to the IRS and if a payment is not made, authorities will be notified and that person will go to jail.

If you receive this call, you are asked to remember the IRS handles most contacts through the United States Postal Service. IRS agents may occasionally call or show up at a residence or business, but taxpayers will be notified by mail ahead of time. Local police will not make arrests for outstanding taxes.
