The following is a compilation of the unedited responses from Richard Herman, Potter County Justice of the Peace Pct. 2, to the 2018 Amarillo Pioneer Voter Guide Questionnaire. Herman is running for re-election in the March 6th Republican primary against Amarillo College police officer Robert Taylor. The winner of the Republican Party's nomination will face Democrat Claudia Griego in November.

Name:

Richard Herman

Office Sought:

Potter County Justice of the Peace

Why did you decide to run for office?

I am seeking your vote for reelection because I feel that making a difference in the lives of people is important, and I believe the lack of “Servant Leadership” is the main reasons that our country has some of the political issues and problems we face today because, as a nation, we have stopped electing true servant leaders. You see we elect individuals based on what they say they are going to do, and not based on what they have done. By reelecting me a true servant leader, we can continue to change things for the better. While serving as Justice of the Peace I have kept every promise made while improving other areas. I have expunged thousands of our kids’ truancy criminal records which will give them opportunity instead of being holding them back just as promised. My staff has assisted me in getting rid of the back log of cases in under three years, while maintaining a fair and balanced court. I have saved the tax payer thousands of dollars just by conducting a thorough Inquest. There are many other ways we have improved our court, but the essential point is I need your vote to continue this journey we started three years ago. I feel that a leader should prove he/she is a true servant leader before being asked to lead. I have demonstrated this type of leadership in every organization that I served. I have been successful in leadership roles and organizations because of my honesty, character, compassion, and empathy. My desire is to continue making a difference and while improving Potter County for all our residents which I believe centers on action as opposed to just words and empty, unfulfilled promises.

Please list any of your political, civic or non-profit experience.

I am a Strong supporter of the Republican Party never becoming a fair-weather fan who only supports when things meet my own desires. I am a member of the Distinguished Audie Murphy Club which is an honor because only a small percentage are ever inducted based upon their leadership qualities. I have served as VFW Post Commander, Past member of the Elks, Past Director, Agent of the CFL, VFW, Veteran's Committee Chairman, Chairman of Several Committee's Military Related, Founder and CEO of The Classic Brew fest, Founder, and CEO of the Celebration of Freedom, and supports several other charities. My Awards, Recognition, and Medal's for Leadership, Sales, Management, Training, and Military Service are numerous speaking for themselves. I have been recognized for being top in my area hundreds of times, and I am a Strong supporter of Charity, Selfless Service, and Country.

What is your educational background?

I have met all Texas education requirements for Justice of the Peace while continuing to attain additional hours each year, and I have Over 33 years of Military training along with many college hours, in various subjects dealing with people, and the law.

What experience do you have that qualifies you for this position?

I have over thirty five years leading people in various types of situations to include leading my fellow veterans in combat while under fire from bad people that want to take away our way of life as Americans. I have a proven track record in my current position here in Potter County as Justice of the Peace constantly seeking more improvement for our people.

How will you best represent the community that elected you?

As their Justice of the Peace who always puts others first but understands we must have a fair, and balanced justice system which serves all not just the select.

Are you supported by Amarillo Matters?

No

How are you better suited than your opponent(s) to serve in the position that you are running for?

I have a proven record of accomplishments as the current Justice of the Peace resulting in much improvement in our community for the people I serve. I really do not know my opponent that well other than his well worded Bio online that would lead someone to think he is a combat veteran because of the way he describes his service which is not the case, but something that does deeply concern me is that he has served in various roles with the Democrat party to include seeking their nomination for office in prior elections. Having said all this I really want to say that down deep inside I really do not believe that elections should be ran on pointing out my opponents’ weaknesses but rather my election should be won on my strengths, and merit. Therefore I am going to just let my current accomplishments as your Justice of the Peace, and service to our way of life stand for us and ask for your vote in reelection.

Why should voters choose you on March 6th?

I need you to vote for me because our shared desire is to make a difference and improve Potter County for all of our residents centering on action as opposed to just words and empty, unfulfilled promises.
