Delegates to the Republican Party of Texas Convention in Houston elected two new West Texas representatives to the governing board of the party on Friday.
During the Senate District 31 caucus, delegates elected Ethan Libby and Tammie Smith to serve on the State Republican Executive Committee. The district the two new representatives will serve includes most of the Texas Panhandle and the Permian Basin.
In the committeeman race, delegates chose Libby, an Amarillo attorney, to replace incumbent Brandon Hodges, who did not seek re-election. Libby won 62 percent of the vote versus his opponent, Odessa-based teacher Dallas Kennedy, who received 38 percent.
In the committeewoman race, Smith won a three-way contest to replace Tisha Crow, who did not seek re-election. Smith, the Upton County Republican Chairwoman, won 53 percent of the vote against Odessa’s Julie Kellogg, who received 41 percent. Amarillo activist Misty Collier received 6 percent.
