Wendi Swope is the newest member of the Center City Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone Board of Directors.
Swope, an Amarillo advertising agency owner, was appointed to fill one of two seats on the Center City TIRZ Board by the Potter County Commissioners Court on Monday. Swope was appointed to one of the two seats over the objections of several citizens who spoke at the meeting, claiming the business owner had a conflict of interest.
In a vote over another seat on the Center City TIRZ Board, the Commissioners opted against appointing Amarillo businessman Craig Gualtiere to the board. Gualtiere, the former owner of Roaster’s Coffee and a former Randall County commissioner, was nominated by Commissioner John Coffee to fill the second seat on the board. Coffee’s motion died for lack of a second.
The two seats that Commissioners will filling on Monday were previously held by Commissioners Coffee and H.R. Kelly.
