Four Battling for Potter Justice of the Peace Seat

Four candidates are running to replace Justice of the Peace Debbie Horn in Potter County.

In Precinct 1, which covers most of the south-central portions of the county, three Republicans and one Democrat have filed for their opportunity to replace the retiring incumbent, Horn. In the Republican primary, county employee Lisa DeVries, insurance broker Bryan Tackett, and retired federal prosecutor Amanda Mayfield are running. In the Democratic primary, educator David Martinez is the sole candidate running.

The winner of the office will be the first new justice of the peace in many years for Precinct 1, as Horn has been a longtime fixture in the district. The justice of the peace for the district is responsible for presiding over truancy court, landlord-tenant disputes, and traffic ticket cases. The justice of the peace may also conduct arraignments and inquests, as needed.

The primary election for the office will be held in March 2026.
