Odessa residents are currently debating a proposal to rename a major city street after late conservative commentator and leader Charlie Kirk.
The proposal, which first began circulating online, would rename Maple Street in Odessa to Charlie Kirk Way. The online petition — which is nonbinding — has gained nearly 2,000 signatures from those in favor of the proposal.
City Councilman Craig Stoker took an interest in the issue after the online petition gained traction and asked voters in an anonymous survey whether they would support such a change. Stoker recently told a local TV station that, so far, the proposal has been relatively unpopular in his survey.
The Odessa City Council is set to discuss the issue at their next meeting.
