Council to Consider Officially Appointing Freeman Interim City Manager

Amarillo City Council will consider officially appointing Andrew Freeman as Interim City Manager during their regular meeting on Tuesday.

When Amarillo City Council unanimously voted to approve a separation agreement with former city manager Jared Miller worth more than $730,000, they did not officially name an interim city manager. Instead, Deputy City Manager Andrew Freeman automatically became acting city manager, as his job was already to fill in when Miller was unavailable.

That may change soon, though. According to the agenda packet for Tuesday’s meeting, the council will consider a resolution formally naming him Interim City Manager.

The draft resolution notes that Freeman will hold the position until a new city manager takes over, at which point Freeman will return to his duties as Deputy City Manager with a salary of $228,375. The resolution also includes a section setting the salary Freeman will receive as Interim City Manager, though the draft version of the ordinance released by the city only includes a blank space instead of a dollar amount.

The meeting will also include a public hearing on the city's budget and a first vote on the city’s new tax rate. The meeting will be held at 3:00 p.m. on the third floor of City Hall. The full agenda and agenda packet are available at this link.
