City Council to Hold Work Session on 'Abortion-Related Restrictions'

Amarillo City Council will meet on Tuesday to hold a work session discussing the potential to pass an “ordinance protecting human life by adding abortion-related restrictions.”

The meeting follows several lengthy public comment sessions on the matter during recent regular meetings of the council. Like the recent meetings, the council will not be taking a vote on any ordinances during the meeting. However, unlike the recent meetings, there is no public comment on the agenda for the work session meeting.

All members of the council have expressed that they are pro-life and have indicated they would support some form of ordinance. However, the members of the council have expressed differences about what should and shouldn’t be in the ordinance and whether or not a proposal should be placed on the ballot.

The meeting will take place at 3:00 pm in the Hospitality Room of Amarillo City Hall. The public may enter at Entrance 7 off of Johnson Street. The city has confirmed the meeting will be livestreamed and that extra seating will be available in the Heritage Room. The agenda for the meeting can be found at this link.

The council is not scheduled to hold another regular meeting until Tuesday, January 9th.
