Amarillo Area Black Chamber of Commerce president Timothy Gassaway has filed to run for the Democratic Party nomination for Texas State House District 87.

Gassaway previously sought the Democratic Party nomination for Potter County Commission Precinct 4 in 2022 and for US House of Representatives in 2020, though he failed to secure the nomination in either race.

The race has gained headlines as incumbent Republican Four Price has chosen to not run for reelection. Medical claims negotiator Caroline Fairly, realtor Cindi Bulla, attorney Jesse Quackenbush, and Perryton ISD Board President Richard Beyea are running for the Republican Party nomination.

With Gassaway being the only Democrat to have filed as of the deadline, he is expected to be unopposed in the Democratic Party primary.

The primary election is scheduled for Tuesday, March 5th.
