State Rep. John Smithee (R-Amarillo) picked up a major endorsement this week from a pro-life political organization.

On Friday morning, Texas Alliance for Life announced its endorsement of Smithee for re-election to the Texas House of Representatives. Smithee was one of several House endorsements listed by the organization, which also backed Sen. Ted Cruz and Railroad Commissioner Christi Craddick for re-election.

Smithee, an attorney who has represented House District 86 since 1985, is seeking another term in office in next year’s election. In 2022, Smithee will be opposed in the Republican primary by Jamie Haynes, a Canyon activist.

Thus far, the organization has not released an endorsement for the Texas House District 87 race.
