Ronchetti Calls for New Mexico Abortion Referendum

The Republican nominee for New Mexico governor, Mark Ronchetti, is calling for his state’s voters to decide the fate of the state’s abortion laws, as the race for New Mexico’s top office heats up.

According to an ad released by the Ronchetti campaign, the meteorologist-turned-politician is pledging that he will put a referendum on the ballot to decide New Mexico’s abortion laws, if he is elected in November. Ronchetti states in the commercial that while he is personally pro-life, and has made no efforts to hide that fact on the campaign trail, voters should ultimately have the final say on the state’s abortion laws.

“I’m Mark Ronchetti and I approve this message, because no politician should make this decision for you,” Ronchetti says in the commercial.

Ronchetti is currently locked in a tight race with incumbent Democrat Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham in New Mexico, with recent polling showing Ronchetti only running five points behind the incumbent, making this one of the most competitive races in recent years for New Mexico Republicans.

Voters will decide this race on November 8.
