Editorial: Mad About the Trump-FBI Raid? Here's What You Can Do.

Since President Trump announced yesterday that the FBI raided Mar-a-Lago, his home in Palm Beach, Florida, social media has been abuzz with angry Republicans who are upset that the Department of Justice has been weaponized for political purposes.

There has been a lot of angry finger pointing on social media and condemnations of President Biden and Attorney General Merrick Garland. There has also been a lot of meme sharing, with people posting memes attacking Biden and defending Trump.

All of those reactions are understandable, considering the fact that the FBI raid on Trump truly is an unprecedented event in American history. However, like everything else, social media complaining isn’t going to change anything. If you are truly angry about what happened at Mar-a-Lago, then there are two things you can do to show your disapproval and make your voice heard on this event.

The first action is to vote on November 8 for candidates who are going to crack down on the Biden administration’s executive overreach. This isn’t the first time the Biden administration has been playing politics and it won’t be the last, so it’s crucially important that Republicans who will actually do something about the overreach get elected in November.

However, in an area like the Texas Panhandle, our votes won’t do much good on that issue. U.S. Rep. Ronny Jackson is very likely to win his re-election bid this year, according to FiveThirtyEight’s projections, and there isn’t a Senate race on the ballot in Texas this year. So, what should you do if you like in a heavily-Republican-dominated area like the Texas Panhandle, but still want to do something to put a stop to Biden’s assault on conservatives and Republicans?

The answer is simple: donate.

I’m not talking about giving money to people like Ted Cruz, who isn’t up for re-election this year, or candidates like Greg Abbott, who wouldn’t be able to make a difference anyway. I’m talking about donating to Republicans running in key Senate and House races across the country who are battling to claim competitive districts and states that will decide who controls the House and Senate in 2023.

If you aren’t sure who some good candidates would be to give contributions to, I want to direct your attention to three Republicans currently running in some of the most competitive races in the country — two against Democrat incumbents, and one for an open Republican-held seat.

First, in Arizona, Blake Masters is running to unseat U.S. Sen. Mark Kelly, an anti-gun Democrat who got elected on the Biden coattails in 2020 in that state. Masters is a political newcomer who previously worked as President of the Thiel Foundation and COO of Thiel Capital. According to FiveThirtyEight, the race is looking like it will be a close one, with Kelly currently holding a five-point lead. Donate to Blake Masters here.

Next, in Nevada, former Nevada Attorney General Adam Laxalt is running against Democrat U.S. Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto. Laxalt got through a tough primary with the backing of President Trump and is now looking to reclaim this seat in the competitive swing state of Nevada. According to FiveThirtyEight, Laxalt is currently trailing Cortez Masto by three points, so every dollar matters in this critical race. Donate to Adam Laxalt here.

Finally, in Pennsylvania, celebrity television doctor Mehmet Oz is running as the Republican nominee for U.S. Senate, hoping to keep Republican control of the seat being vacated by Sen. Pat Toomey. Oz is endorsed by President Trump, former Texas Gov. Rick Perry, and many other Republican leaders. Notably, Oz is running against Lt. Gov. John Fetterman for the seat, a socialist-leaning Democrat who is backed by Biden and Sen. Elizabeth Warren. While Fetterman has tried to cast himself as a blue collar champion, news recently broke that Fetterman apparently lived off an allowance provided by his parents into his 40s. According to FiveThirtyEight, Oz is trailing Fetterman by 11 points in recent polls, so it is critical that Oz gets Republican support to narrow the gap against Fetterman to retain Republican control of this seat. Donate to Mehmet Oz here.

If you are angry about what is happening in Washington, complaining on social media isn’t going to cut it. Step up, chip in a few bucks to your favorite candidates, and make a difference. This is where the rubber meets the road, and it’s imperative that Republicans get involved now to send a message to Washington.
