Authorities are currently investigating a domestic violence aggravated assault incident and officer-involved shooting that occurred on Wednesday.

According to the Amarillo Police Department, officers were dispatched on Wednesday at 3:35pm to Sunrise Elementary to a domestic violence aggravated assault that occurred in the 1000 block of Ricks. The victim was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries.

Officers went to a residence in the 1000 block of Ricks where the assault occurred and the suspect was thought to still be located in the area. The suspect met officers outside and was holding a gun. Both the officer and suspect fired their guns.

The suspect was shot and taken to the hospital for his injuries.

Amarillo Police detectives are still investigating this incident.
