For the State Board of Education, District 15 Republican primary, incumbent Jay Johnson is facing a primary challenge from Midland businessman and U.S. Air Force veteran Aaron Kinsey.

Both candidates bring differing perspectives to this important race for the future of Texas education and at this moment, our publisher’s committee feels Kinsey has the right perspective to be the voice for West Texans on the State Board of Education.

Kinsey, 39, is CEO of American Patrols an aerial patrol company that assists energy companies in minimizing liquid and gas emissions. A graduate of Harvard Business School, Kinsey is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having flown over 120 combat missions in Iraq and Afghanistan.

On the issues, Kinsey has a conservative approach to education that gets big things done. Kinsey wants to focus on helping Texas students who have fallen behind due to the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as ensuring responsible management of the Permanent Education Fund.

These priorities show Kinsey is dedicated to helping Texas schools produce college-ready and workforce-ready students, as well as ensuring that education tax dollars are spent wisely.

Both Johnson and Kinsey are good men and have good ideas for the future of education in Texas. However, we believe Kinsey has the right priorities to ensure that Texas public education can thrive while taxpayer dollars are spent wisely.

We recommend Aaron Kinsey for State Board of Education, District 15 in the March Republican primary election.

Early voting runs February 14-25. Election Day is March 1.
