Amarillo Police Investigating Series of Shootings

Amarillo authorities are investigating a series of shootings that occurred on Monday, including a shooting that left one person dead.

According to the Amarillo Police Department, on Monday, September 6, officers investigated five shootings in North Amarillo and are seeking the public’s help to identify the suspect. The first shooting took place around 12:05am on Monday in the 900 block of Heather, where a 17-year-old male victim was driving his vehicle when the suspect drove by and shot at him, striking him in the upper body. The victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The next shooting took place around 12:36am, when officers were dispatched to the 1300 block of Aster, where a 20-year-old victim had been driving in the 1000 block of Eastern Street before the suspect vehicle came up beside him and started shooting. The victim’s vehicle was struck, but he was injured.

Authorities were next dispatched to the area of Northeast 20th Avenue and Iris Street at 12:41am, where a 48-year-old female victim told officers that she had been driving on Northeast 20th Avenue when the suspect vehicle drove beside her and began firing into the driver’s side of her car. She was uninjured.

At 8:20pm, officers were again dispatched on the report of a shooting, when a 52-year-old female victim in the 6700 block of Northeast 19th Avenue told officers that she was followed by the suspect to this location when someone in the vehicle fired shots at her, striking her car. She was uninjured.

The final dispatch came in at 9:21pm on Monday, when officers were called to the intersection of Northwest 15th Avenue and Monroe Street. Officers located a 62-year-old female deceased in her vehicle at this location. She had been shot while driving.

APD says the first four incidents occurred in the same neighborhood in North Amarillo and all of the victims described the suspect vehicle as a dark colored four-door sedan with bright headlights. APD is investigating these incidents, but no leads have led to any arrests. Detectives ask that anyone with information on these cases call Amarillo Police or Crime Stoppers at 806-374-4400.
