Republican Tom Slocum has announced his candidacy for Texas Railroad Commissioner, presenting a primary challenge to incumbent Commissioner Wayne Christian.
On Thursday, Slocum announced his candidacy for Railroad Commissioner, becoming the third Republican in the race one of three seats on Texas’ top energy regulation board. According to his campaign’s press release, Slocum is the founder of the Texas Well Protected Energy Foundation.
Slocum will be challenging Christian, who is running for re-election to the Railroad Commission after first being elected to his job in 2016. Christian and Slocum will both be on the Republican primary ballot, as well as the third candidate in the race — Dawayne Tipton.
On the Democratic side, Luke Warford is also running for the position.
Interested candidates for this position can file to run beginning on Friday, November 13, with filing ending on Monday, December 13. The primary election day is scheduled for March 1, 2022.
