Thompson Park Water Park Project Finalized

The Amarillo Parks and Recreation Board has signed off on a final project design for the new aquatic park facility which will serve in the place of the shuttered Thompson Park Pool.

According to artist renderings released by the City of Amarillo, the project will include a lazy river, a pool, slides, an area for a future event space, and more. The project is being finalized after the Amarillo City Council voted earlier this year to issue $7.9 million in tax-funded debt for the project.

“The new Thompson Park Pool will be a modern, state-of-the-art facility,” Parks and Recreation director Michael Kashuba said in a statement. “We really wanted and valued public input on this project – this was a major consideration. This will be a facility that the entire Amarillo area can be proud of and will want to share with their family and friends for decades to come.”

The new facility is expected to be open around Memorial Day 2021.
